TEEN ACCUSED IN SHOOTING TO BE TRIED AS ADULT

After the incident on West Edwin Street in Williamsport on August 19th, in which a 16 year old boy drew a gun on an adult man who shot back with a legally concealed firearm, the boy will be charged as an adult in Lycoming County Court.  According to the Sun Gazette, Shamier James Gadson was injured in the exchange and received emergency surgery the night of the shooting.  The adult man was not injured.  After Gadson was released from the hospital, police arrested him for attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other charges.  He was arraigned and committed to Lycoming County Prison on 500 thousand dollars bail.

MAN WHO SOUGHT HELP AT LIBERTY EXXON FROM SHOOTING DIES

A man involved in the shooting at the Liberty Exxon in Tioga County Friday, has died. According to State police, 31 year old Jesus Alicia-Santiago, of Buffalo, New York, drove himself to the convenience store about 3pm to get help after being shot by a person in another car at the intersection of Route 414 and US 15, near the Park and Ride. MEDICAL MALPRACTICE LAWS IN PA HAVE CHANGED

Medical malpractice lawsuits could be on the rise, after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed a twenty year old rule, that malpractice suits can be filed in the county in which the injustice occurred. The reversal by the state’s high court, could mean an increase in cases in the state’s largest cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh; where juries could be more sympathetic on awarding large amounts of compensation to victims.

OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY IN WILLIAMSPORT WEDNESDAY

To bring awareness to the problem of drug and alcohol overdoses in the city of Williamsport, a day-long event will be held at Brandon park on Wednesday, International Overdose Awareness Day, involving three agencies that work regularly to prevent deaths from overdoses.  According to the Sun Gazette, Williamsport Family Medical Center, Diakon Family Life Services and West Branc Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission will each have representatives at the park beginning at 8am throughout the day.  A Night of Remembrance in Brandon Park with music will then be held at the band shell from 6 til 8pm.

TWO MORE SCHOOL FOOTBALL PROGRAMS ACCUSED OF HAZING

A high school in Bradford County has now come forward saying there are allegations of hazing at their school as well.  This is the third Pennsylvania school to address hazing issues since Middletown High school near Harrisburg cancelled their season after videos surfaced online showing the alleged incidents. Mohawk High School near Pittsburgh and now Athens High School are under investigation. According to Penn Live, the alleged hazing occurred in mid-July at a football camp at Bloomsburg University and continued up until preseason workouts at the local school. No further word has been given on whether any charges will be filed.

CLINTON COUNTY MAN SENTENCED FOR 2020 SEXUAL ASSAULT

An Avis man, was sentenced in Clinton County Court, for assaulting various women, was convicted of indecent assault and harassment. According to North Central PA dot com, 46 year old Eric Montague King, formerly of Lafayette Street, was sentenced last week to a maximum of seven years and six months — with a minimum of three years and nine months — for the assaults that took place in 2020. King will also serve a mandatory three years on probation and be classified as a sexually-violent predator for the remainder of his life.

ELEVEN NEW CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS HIRED

The Lycoming County Commissioners approved the hiring of eleven correctional officers at the county prison and pre-release center. According to the Sun Gazette, the county prison had been experiencing a staffing shortage, since earlier in the year. The commissioners had previously had tabled many of the hirings, from July’s session. They were approved with other personnel decisions in their August meeting, this week.

SUNBURY’S MEMORIAL BRIDGE LANE CLOSURE

Penn DOT will be on Veteran’s Memorial Bridge today in Sunbury for repairs.  According to a press release, crews will be repairing lights today along the southbound lane of the Veterans Memorial Bridge between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., weather permitting. Watch for a single lane restriction where work is being performed.

Austin Dillon plucked a playoff spot for himself at Daytona International Speedway yesterday for the last race of the regular season.  After an over 3-hour weather delay, Dillon passed Austin Cindric for the lead with 3 laps to go. Dillon  finished first followed by Tyler Reddick, Austin Cindric, Landon Cassill, and Noah Gragson 5th.
PGA GOLF
Rory McElroy won the FedEx cup the PGA Tours’ season-long competition after playing Sunday at East Lake Golf Club with a final round of 4 under 66. Winning the Tour Championship for the 3rd time, McELroy finished 1 stroke better than Scotty Scheffler and Sunjae Im.
