WOMAN HIDES FUGITIVE IN HER HOME, FACES CHARGES
Police say a Williamsport woman knowingly hid a man being sought by law enforcement in November and now faces a felony charge. According to the Sun Gazette, an police affidavit says that, 25 year old Kylah Winder kept Jhalil Moore in her home on November 21st and lied to police when they came to her residence at the 2000 block of Grand Street, saying no one else was there but her. Officers found Moore in a closet in the home and arrested Winder for felony hindering apprehension and prosecution. She was released on 10 thousand dollars bail.
MOTHER CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE
A woman from Mifflintown who was found inside her home on the phone at a time when her 5 year old child was outside in freezing conditions, has been charged with child abuse. According to North Central PA dot com, police say they were called to the home on Mountain View Road in Walker Township and discovered the boy had been outside for an extended period without proper clothing. They reported that the Juniata County home was in deplorable conditions. An investigation is ongoing in the case.
POTENTIAL DATA BREACH FOR SOME WASD STUDENTS, STAFF
A potential data breach was reported from a third party vendor which may affect some current and former Williamsport Area School District students and staff members. According to the Sun Gazette, an email was sent to WADS families saying that the vendor, PowerSchool, has reached out to law enforcement about a cybersecurity incident that may have occurred in December of 2024. Information accessed could include student names, social security numbers and other personal information may have been compromised. Officials from the school said they are working with the vendor to assess the scope of the damage to determine next steps.
NEW DRUG RECOVERY GROUP MEETING LOCATION
A second location has been added in Middleburg for those struggling with addiction and their families who are interested in Susquehanna Valley Mediation’s Families in Recovery Program. According to North Central PA dot com, the free weekly support group begins tomorrow at the Walking Free Clubhouse along Route 522 at 6:30pm. This location is in addition to the Union County meeting at 18 Market Street in Lewisburg that is held every Monday evening. WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DUI WITH INFANT IN CAR
Police received a tip from the mother of a woman who drove to the Sheetz in Williamsport with an infant in the car after drinking a box of wine, and arrested her for child endangerment and DUI. According to North Central PA dot com, police questioned 25 year old Hannah Leann McLaughlin at the convenience store November 22nd where she admitted to drinking a box of wine. Officers found McLaughlin showing signs of impairment, and she blew .188 on a breathalyzer. McLaughlin is free on $7,500 unsecured bail, but faces third-degree felony charges. Her arraignment is at the end of January.
PA TROOPER CHARGED WITH HAVING PORN ON WORK COMPUTER
A state trooper from Havertown has been arrested for allegedly having thousands of pornographic images stored in his work computer. According to North Central PA dot com, 38 year old Stephen M. Kamnik had his work computer investigated after an oversight agency noted high usage of bandwidth in November of 2024. Investigators say Kamnik sent 2.33 gigabytes of data to a porn site URL. Kamnik who has been a Trooper since 2011, was charged with felony unauthorized use of a computer and misdemeanor misapplication of entrusted property with his preliminary hearing scheduled for February 5th.
SOLAR ARRAY PROPOSAL APPROVED IN TURBOTVILLE
The proposal for a conditional use order for the 59,000-panel solar array planned in Turbotville Borough and Lewis Township was approved by the Turbotville Borough Council at their meeting last week. According to the Daily Item, Susquehanna Solar LLC wants to build on 79 acres of land shared by the two municipalities with 39 acres in Turbotville. Some of the conditions for approval include an annual 40 thousand dollars in community impact fees, adjusted for inflation for the facility’s lifetime, fencing around the facility, size requirements for the solar panels and more. The solar firm plans to sell power generated from the project – to the utility power grid.
PA DOGS FEATURED IN PUPPY BOWL ON SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
Twelve dogs who are participating in the Puppy Bowl XX1 (21) on February 9th are from Pennsylvania – with one dog from the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area named Aurelia who was chosen for Team Fluff. According to Penn Live, representatives from Warner Brothers Discovery say the three-hour event features 142 rescue puppies from 80 shelters in 40 states and two countries. The Puppy Bowl will air on Superbowl Sunday at 2pm and will be available to stream live on Animal Planet and Discovery+. The pups will compete for several awards including the Walmart “Lombarky” trophy, Most Valuable Puppy award, the Subaru of America Underdog award and the Krypto Super Play award.
