MAYOR’S COMMENTS ABOUT CITY HALL BUILDING DECISIONS
Mayor Derek Slaughter has recently released a statement amidst the ongoing debate about the condemned City Hall building on West Fourth Street in the city of Williamsport. This, in an attempt to fully inform the general public of important facts about the background and present realities city council faces about the property, which includes a federal lawsuit against the city, citing lack of compliance with ADA requirements. Slaughter’s statement says his administration is now working with auditors to unravel the city’s prior financial intricacies so they can know exactly where the city stands financially, and that the council now has two options, either move on from City Hall by finding a new location for city employees, or raise city taxes for many years to fund the millions of dollars in required repairs of the historic building in downtown Williamsport. City Council plans to announce decisions about the recent bid process of the building by the end of this month.
