ACCIDENT AT NESCOPECK FUNDRAISER KILLS 1 INJURES 17

During a fundraiser for the 10 victims who died in a house fire in Nescopeck last week, a vehicle drove into the crowd gathered for the occasion outside a Berwick bar, killing one person and injuring 17.  Police say the suspect also allegedly assaulted another person directly after that incident.  According to the Sun Gazette, 24 year old  Adrian Sura Reyes of Nescopeck was identified as the suspect from the accident at the fundraiser, after police took him into custody nearby at the home of Reyes’ mother who had been killed with a hammer.  Police say the man is not a suspect in the house fire, and he is incarcerated in Columbia County prison with no bail.

CITY FINANCES UNDER A MICROSCOPE FOR IRREGULARITIES

The City of Williamsport, is dealing with financial irregularities that have been discovered after an outside consulting firm was hired to help the city get its finances back in order. This comes after seventeen year Director of Finance, Joe Pawlak, had retired in June. According to the Sun Gazette, incomplete IRS reporting, and other issues date back as far as 2017, and the city’s finances are under state investigation by the Attorney General’s office, in regard to River Valley Transit’s misappropriation of funds.

LOYALSOCK TWP LANE CLOSURE TUESDAY

There will be a lane closure on the Golden Strip tomorrow between 9am and 3pm.  According to PennDOT, East Third Street in Loyalsock Township will be down to a single lane with the right lane closed, for a construction project. A contractor will be performing construction work on the entrance of the Dunkin Donuts that has been closed for a remodel of their parking lot.  They are expected to reopen with a double drive thru in September.

GRAND SLAM PARADE CLOSES STREETS IN WILLIAMSPORT TODAY

The 16th Annual Little League World Series Grand Slam Parade will kick off tomorrow in downtown Williamsport. The parade steps off at 5:30pm at the intersection of Susquehanna and West Fourth Street and proceeds east to the intersection of West Fourth and Market Streets. The downtown festival begins at 4pm.
* West Fourth Street between Hepburn and Market streets will be closed from 2pm to the end of the parade.

• Staging area at Hepburn Street to Government Place will be blocked off and monitored for pedestrian traffic only at 2pm

• Vine Avenue will close completely for the staging area at 4pm

• No parking on West Fourth Street between Market and Grier streets at 4pm

• Fourth Street closed from Susquehanna to Rose streets at 4pm

• Begin rolling street closure between Susquehanna and Hepburn streets on Fourth Street at 5:15pm

• Market Street closed between Third and Fourth streets at 6pm

City streets will begin to re-open as soon as the last parade entry passes through the area.

Only the section between Market and West Fourth streets will remain closed until all safety barricades are removed.

BARN FIRE IN MORRIS SUNDAY

Lycoming county firefighters responded Sunday after 2pm when an old barn in Morris was on fire, but mostly worked to keep other structures from igniting near the Pine Township property.  According to the Sun Gazette, a barn on Potato Patch lane burned out of control for about an hour and volunteers from Liberty, Blossburg, Middlebury Township and others kept two nearby properties from sustaining any damage.  One firefighter was treated and released for heat exhaustion.  Authorities suspect a spark from a campfire that hadn’t been properly extinguished started the fire. 

MOTORCYCLIST TO BE CHARGED AFTER ACCIDENT

A motorcyclist remains in critical condition, after an accident Friday morning in Northumberland County. 51 year old Raymond Hauck of Dewart, lost control of his motorcycle and laid it down.  According to the Daily Item, the accident happened at the intersection of Route 405 and Main Street in Delaware Township around 3am. According to State Police, Hauck will be charged in the incident because he was driving with a suspended license.

FORMER KOHL’S EMPLOYEE ARRESTED FOR THEFT

A former Kohl’s Department Store employee has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, amongst other charges after allegedly taking cash from a cash register over numerous times during a seven day period. According to North Central PA dot com, Morgan Elizabeth McDermott began the thefts on June 13th and continued three more times, until June 20th. McDermott admitted to the store’s Loss Prevention team of the thefts. McDermott awaits a preliminary hearing in district court.

Majors – Hollidaysburg wrapped up a Mid-Atlantic Region title Friday by downing Delaware 7-3, They head back home to play Thursday during the LLWS.
